Science communication

Thousands of scientific articles are being published everyday, and often this work has profound relevance to policy discussions. Often times, this information is left out of the public eye because they get pushed into highly technical journals that are not accessible to the majority of the country. We are strong advocates for informing the public on research relevant to social issues such as gun violence and climate change because we believe this information is critical to creating effective policy solutions. One of the primary focuses of our group is writing op-eds and popular science articles to get the word out about the science-based evidence surrounding social issues.

Scientific political involvement

Scientists have a unique set of skills. They know how to sift through research and data, how to draw conclusions from facts, and how to determine cause and effect in complex situations. These skills are great in a lab, and they may be even better in government and policy. Policy issues are undeniably complex, and a scientist's evidence based approach offers a very unique perspective to untangling these problems. However, while concerned, many scientists don't have the resources or knowledge to apply their skills to the policy realm. We hope to bring politicians together with scientists, through meetings with local officials and panel style events, to help STEM minded individuals get the information they need to impact political discourse, whether that be through more effective voting, targeted donations, better science communication, or running for office themselves.
